01/04/2022 | That's where the trains are! I remember going to Buhl to see the trains when I was a kid. I'm the guy that pulls over on the side of the road on I-99 to watch the trains slowly go around the turn to Horseshoe Curve, or watch the helpers come back. That's not always a popular decision with the family :) I'm at a place where I can offer my time and experience without being over extended, and I'd love to be a part of what I consider to be local history. |

01/07/2022 | I have a family that loves the Science Center, as I do. I have always thought about volunteering and this is the first opportunity that I have had since my retirement due to circumstances around the pandemic and facilitating school issues with my grandchildren. |
04/12/2018 | Lots of interesting "stuff" to talk about. |
12/06/2017 | When I was a youngster, growing up in New York City, I was almost always within walking distance to the Museum of Natural History (which included the Hayden Planetarium),and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I was a frequent visitor to all three institutions. As a result of my planetarium visits, I have always referred to myself as a "Frequent Flyer" in the Solar System. I went there even when I played hookey from school (as well as the Main Reading Room of the New York Public Library and the UN ). Those activities gave me a grounding and love for all that they represented and still influence my life to the present day. One of the important things that I got of that experience is that seeking to know does not stop and start in formal schools. It starts when you start breathing and can take place anywhere. Learning doesn't have to be "fun." It does have to be interesting, rewarding as Museums and all consuming. Museums and Libraries, among other institutions are the best places for that to happen. |
10/22/2019 | I enjoy sharing the many skills I have learned over the past 35 years of teaching grades 6 - 12. My wife is a 5 year volunteer at the science center and she really likes working there. *I have all the necessary clearances needed to teach in the public school system. |

09/25/2015 | Job Coach for City Connections have a student that is very interested in this opportunity |
09/03/2016 | Why not? I like teaching kids, and mentor very well. Three of my success stories have degrees in computer graphics, two Master's degrees (one in EE, and the other I'm not sure of, and he is being encouraged to go for a PhD in EE). And one has a PhD in Computer Science. I am particularly interested in encouraging girls and minority students to enter STEM fields by capturing their interest early. |

I believe it played a significant role in developing my interest in science, and my eventual choice in becoming an Engineer. I always had an interest in airplanes as far back as I can remember and my fondest science center memory was seeing the magic of flight in the Omnimax Theater. Even today as an adult, I STILL love coming to the science center, and taking my niece to hopefully foster the same interest in science and nature in her. I have been provided with an opportunity to give back something to a place I've always enjoyed which is why I'm here today filling out this application. |

02/24/2015 | As a child, I learned early on that hands-on learning in an informal setting helps to reduce the stress associated with learning in a formal classroom setting. As a middle school student, I visited the Nehru Science Centre in Mumbai, India. It was here that I learned the functioning of the heart by climbing through and interacting with a giant heart replica with the atrium, the ventricles, the aorta and mechanically opening and closing of the valves. This heart also featured an audible heartbeat. As a girl, this model taught me the heart functioning more effectively than anything I had learned in a classroom. I recently visited the Carnegie Science Center and saw the same delight and excitement among children on having the opportunity to interact with workable models. Kids used their stethoscopes to hear the heartbeats at the biology center. They performed an eye surgery with a mechanical eye model. As a teaching assistant during my master's, I loved having the chance to interact with students and help them learn. I would love to have another the opportunity to help encourage learning in a very different setting at the Carnegie Science Center. |

This opportunity would allow me help inspire a love of science in more people as well as share my passion for it, making it the perfect fit. |
04/07/2015 | The Carnegie Science Center always inspires an interest in learning more about science and history. As a student, I sincerely believe in learning, and I personally encourage interactive learning because of the significant impact on one's memory. When I last visited the Carnegie Science Center with a friend, we walked around the entire building visiting the different displays and educational booths, and we learned a lot about different topics. I am interested in Biology and Psychology, but I found it amazing how I learned about robots, the history of Pittsburgh, bicycles, and submarines in one trip to the science center. Interactive learning has always interested me, and I would love to share my knowledge and encourage the visitors of the Carnegie Science Center to explore and soak in all of the information that they can about the displays.Gaining knowledge is an important part of life, and the Center makes it an informal yet interesting process. At the Carnegie Science Center, I would also like to improve my leadership and teamwork skills. I am an introvert, but I believe that interacting with different groups of people will help me expand my horizons. After graduating from college, I would like to join the Peace Corps and I hope that my experiences at the Carnegie Science Center will assist me as I pursue my dreams and goals. Thank you! |

05/16/2015 | Interested in science, close to home |
05/18/2015 | In my opinion, it is one of the most fun places in Pittsburgh. It makes science fun for both kids and adults. Especially, CSC help kids to explore different fields of science and encourage them to learn more about science and technology. |
05/19/2015 | I'm certainly interested in volunteering. I'm 52 yrs old and finding more more time now since my kids have grown and both are in college. I normally have spent time volunteering with holding classes and workshops on science and technical subjects. It has been mostly electronics, computers, and robotics related subjects. But I always like to entertain others areas such as math since they were my favorite subjects in school. And I often take these topics and combine them into computer science lessons to show how programming is applied in the real world. thank you, Dan |
05/19/2015 | I liked to go museums and science centers when I was young because I felt every time I went I will learn something more. I like the environment there. I think it will be very fun to work there too. |

05/19/2015 | I grew up near the Center of Science and Industry (CoSI) in Columbus, and always loved going there as a child and a teen. After a recent move to Pittsburgh I'm looking for ways to get involved in the community, and helping children (and adults) experience the fun, interactive side of science seems like a very rewarding way to do that. |
05/27/2015 | I Love animals but never had a chance to really know amphibians. I hope I can learn something about them from this volunteer experience. Of course, lizards, turtles and frogs are really cool animals to me. |
06/02/2015 | I have always enjoyed visiting the science center ,and I love science. |
01/24/2019 | Learning is my greatest passion. I have been a fan of the Science Center and all of the Carnegie Museums since I was a school-age girl and am an advocate for its programs, partnerships, and involvement with the community. Through a Science Center STEM event did I learn about the amazing Girls of Steel Robotics Team. The work of organizations like this and the support of the Science Center in providing learning opportunities to the Pittsburgh community gives me great hope that we are moving in the direction of solving some of our planet's greatest challenges. (Also, Leonardo Da Vinci is a great inspiration to me and I would find volunteering for this exhibit very rewarding). |
06/04/2015 | I am a neuroscience major at University of Pittsburgh and currently have a lot of free time this summer to volunteer. I am very interested in the Science Center exhibits and want to help spread science knowledge to the Pittsburgh community. I have a variable schedule every week based on the restaurant where I currently work about 20 hours a week. |
06/08/2015 | I believe sparking an interest in the STEM fields at a young age is one of the most important factors contributing to students success in related classes in primary education and develops the students understanding of their environment and the opportunities that they can have presented to them with proper training and networking. I, also, enjoyed the Science Center as a child and continue to enjoy it when I take my younger relatives and children I babysit to experience what the Science Center has to offer. |
06/08/2015 | Since I first came to Pitt last year, I've loved visiting and being a part of the Carnegie Museums- I think they are a really vital part of the Pittsburgh community because they make knowledge accessible. For that reason, I would love to give back to one of my favorite institutions in this city by volunteering at the Science Center! I love the sciences and the ideals of curiosity and imagination that they espouse, and I really want to work with children so I can hopefully pass on my own enthusiasm to them! |

02/01/2016 | I want to help future women of the world in STEM, and have heard many great things about the Carnegie Science Center. |
02/04/2016 | Seems like a cool place to volunteer and learn. I am volunteering with Holy Family Academy on Fridays in the FABLab and love making stuff with computers. |
02/10/2018 | I've had a passion for inspiring interest in STEM to non-scientists for all of my adult life and, once I graduate with my Ph.D., I want a component of my career will be dedicated to that. I'm especially interested in increasing the diversity of people with careers in the sciences and that one of the best ways to do that is through outreach to children. I want to inspire kids to be curious and to ask creative questions about the world and how things work. Unfortunately, there aren't as many opportunities as I would like to do this in Ph.D. programs. However, when I brought my nieces to the Carnegie Science Center, I was impressed by how accessible it made scientific concepts to people of all ages and how friendly and approachable everyone who worked there was. For the rest of the day, my nieces didn't stop asking me questions about how things work! I found it awesome in the truest meaning of the word and left thinking that it was a place I'd like to be. I feel that my volunteering as Carnegie Science Center will be mutually beneficial. I possess valuable skills and qualities that I believe will aid in the center's goal of showing people how interesting the world is from a scientific perspective. In return, the experience of regular STEM outreach will hone my communication skills to the public even further and the unique questions that people ask me will fan my own scientific curiosity of the world at large which is incredibly gratifying. |
02/08/2016 | I'm interested in getting hands-on experience in astronomy, physics, or something generally science related. I love planetariums and am primarily looking for experience in a science-focused setting |
02/12/2016 | Because its the premier educational institute in USA and platform for me to show and perform volunteering duties. |
02/13/2016 | I am not currently in school or working and will be in Pittsburgh for at least several months, maybe a year. I would like to do something productive/fun with my time and this looks like a great fit! |
02/21/2016 | I am passionate about both science and science communication, so I wanted to look for volunteer opportunities that would expand and explore that passion. I remember field trips to science centers as not only interesting and informative, bust just fun - for me and all of my peers, whether or not they wanted to "be a scientist when they grow up." I think that hands-on, creative learning is a huge part of what has led me to a science career, and I want to help share that curiosity with others, particularly young people. I also think that bringing children to interactive learning centers can show parents and educators the value of scientific interest, and encourage them to keep that interest alive in their students. |
08/28/2019 | I always had a passion for science especially astronomy and earth sciences.I want to continue to learn and help others learn more about science and technology. My dad was an engineer, and my brother is an electrical engineer. We always loved to talk about science and interesting projects. I think I can accomplish that by becoming an active member of the Carnegie Science Center Team. |
02/29/2016 | The Carnegie Science Center is a magical place with a lot of personal nostalgia, and nothing would be better than helping others have the same experiences I did. |
02/29/2016 | I've lived in Pittsburgh since I was 3, and I've visited the Science Center many times with my parents/school. It was one of my favorite places to go as a kid, and it showed me the wonders and potential of science in a way that school never did. I want to help other kids have the same wonder and awesome experiences that I did, as a way to give back. It's cliche, but I love that moment when you're showing a kid an experiment or explaining something and their eyes just light up, and you feel like you've opened their mind to science, even just a little bit. |
03/16/2016 | I have lived in Pittsburgh all of my life and visited the Carnegie Science Center almost every year for as long as I can remember. This Science Center is by far the best place for children to come and interact with science and technology instead of simply reading or learning about it in a classroom, it teaches young people just how exciting and fun science can be. It would be the upmost honor to volunteer for an educational service that inspires young people to love not only science but history, robotics, animals, and so much more. |
03/17/2016 | I am very impressed with the Fab Lab ever since it was started! I was excited to receive a job offer as the Part Time Fab Lab Coordinator but unfortunately, the 20 hours required to perform the position would be difficult to manage in addition to my full time engineering job. Liz Whitewolf and I discussed this and decided that volunteering in the lab is the best way to balance both! I really look forward to sharing my knowledge and love of engineering with the classes! |
03/30/2016 | As a math and education major, the Carnegie Science Center provides me an opportunity to combine my love for math through the STEM or GEMS program, with my love for working with children and teens. Noticing a lack of girls and students as a whole in my program, I believe that Science and Math careers should be encouraged among all ages, and I would embrace the opportunity to assist in that. |

05/15/2016 | I have always loved coming to Carnegie Science Center to check out the new exhibits and talk to fellow scientists. It is such a great thriving environment for learning about science and the universe around us. Also spreading the knowledge to many eager learners is very fulfilling. I feel that I have the necessary knowledge to educate people on the many astronomical objects that we have discovered as well as providing insight on many new space projects in progress. |
05/19/2016 | When I was a child, my family had a pass to the Carnegie Science Center. Therefore, my family and I went there every 2 weeks. Every time we went there, I was eager to go. I have good memories from the Science Center. For example, my favorite attraction is the Miniature Train and Villiage display because I always liked seeing the trains zoom by as well as watching the miniature people do activities like the 1920 Pirates game against the Chicago Cubs and the carnival rides at Luna Park. |
05/21/2016 | A friend of mine is a volunteer at your location. His positive volunteer experience has stirred an interest in me to volunteer. |
09/02/2016 | I have always enjoyed going to the science center as a kid and want to pass on my love of science and learning to the next generation. |

06/27/2016 | Once I knew that I'd be relocating back to the city of Pittsburgh, where I grew up, I wanted to get connected with the community by volunteering. My first job with Boston Public Schools was teaching Science to young children.I've always had a love for Science! |
07/10/2016 | Scientific literacy is a necessity in a world that is often guided by technology and scientific discovery, but learning about science can be daunting for many. Having the opportunity to engage with science in a fun, interactive environment can be critical for many people in developing scientific knowledge - or even a basic interest in science. When science is fun, people are engaged! This seems to be one of the missions of the Carnegie Science Center, and it's a mission I would love to be a part of. In addition, in my experience in science public education settings, I've found that I love engaging people (both kids and adults) with new scientific ideas - I firmly believe you're never too old to learn and I love the moment when a visitor becomes excited and passionate about a new topic they've discovered. The Carnegie Science Center seems like a great place for me to continue my love of public science education, and a place for me to continue fostering my own interests in science. |
07/14/2016 | I really like to learn about science. I like figuring out how things work and teaching others. I would to work with people and develop new experiences. |

10/20/2022 | I've had a lot of great mentors in my past and I want to pay it forward to the following generations. I really appreciate how the Carnegie Science Center works to promote science as an exciting and fun field through various programs, especially to less privileged kids. I'm also friends with past volunteers who have had a very gratifying experience, I hope to partake in this experience as well. I'm sure I can learn a lot from the students and I hope they can learn from me as well. |
04/27/2017 | I enjoy working with children and people in general and have a passion for science. |
05/02/2017 | Growing up I loved the science center, I would always beg my parents to take me. This place truly ignited my passion for science and I would love to share that passion with others. |
03/16/2018 | Trips to the Carnegie Science center were my favorite thing when I was younger. It was at the science center where my passion for science began. I remember running through each floor fascinated by each display. I remember the day that I decide that I wanted to be a scientist when I grew up, and well here I am studying to be a chemical engineer. I attribute a lot of my curiosity about the world around me to the science center. I hope to spread this love of science and curiosity to other children in hope that they too find a passion for discovering the unknown. |
05/07/2017 | I love science and always tried to go there every summer growing up in Pittsburgh. I also am pursuing Labor and Employment Relations major, with a history minor. I would love to one day work in a museum or science center. |
05/09/2017 | I grew up going to the Science Center. The interactive, hands-on exhibits made learning fun. It made science accessible and not intimidating. Years later, I am now an Industrial Engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh. I would like to go back to the Science Center as a volunteer so I can be part of mission of educating and inspiring children in STEM just like the Science Center did for me. |
05/27/2017 | I met some of your volunteers/staff at the CMU Career Fair and found them to be welcoming and I'd like to work in the environment. Also, this center allows me to interact with a wide range of age-groups, and learn with them. |
05/14/2017 | As a woman in STEM, I do enjoy working with science and technology, and I believe that the CSC does an excellent job of informing and entertaining a wide age group! Furthermore, as a person interested in educational technology and children's tools, CSC gets alot of traffic from school going children that I can learn from and interact with. |
05/16/2017 | I've always loved science, technology, and the Carnegie Science Center. When I was a child I would always demand to go to the CSC for my birthday. I'm especially interested in volunteering with the submarine USS Requin due to my longstanding knowledge and fascination with undersea vehicles. |
05/17/2017 | I loved volunteering at the children's museum in Tampa and had been searching for a way to continue the type of work I was doing in my undergrad. Reaching out the younger generation to get them interested in STEM and showing them the beauty behind it is very important to me. Carnegie Science Center was recommended to me by another PhD student and it seemed like a great fit for what I wanted to do. |
05/17/2017 | I have lived in Pittsburgh almost my entire life and going to the Science Center was always such a treat for me both growing up and even now as a young adult. The Science Center provides the unique opportunity of being able to attend a hands-on museum where no matter how old somebody is or what they're interested in, there is an exhibit, show, or activity to cater to them. It has been home to some of my fondest childhood memories and has definitely played a role in shaping my positive attitude towards science, technology, and learning. For somebody like me who for her entire life has loved learning about anything and everything and has had periods of intense fascination in very specific topics (weather, space, and chemistry, to name a few), the Science Center is the perfect mix of being able to spend all my time on just one floor soaking up my latest passion or bouncing around from exhibit to exhibit and discovering something completely new and interesting. There has never been a time I've been to the Science Center and not enjoyed my visit and learned something new. It is a place I've kept coming back to over years, it's a place I've brought friends to and recommend to visitors to Pittsburgh, and it's somewhere I feel would be a great place to volunteer and help give future visitors the wonderful opportunities and experiences I've had. |

I hope, by volunteering at the Carnegie Science Center, I can keep it up to its high standards and help maintain it as a resource for the next generation of STEM-inclined individuals. I owe the Science Center for inspiring me to look into science and engineering from a young age, and I hope to help maintain it so it can continue to do the same for children today. |
06/12/2017 | As a joint business and engineering student, I am exposed more to the business applications of engineering, and am lacking experience-based and interactive learning components that often come with volunteering experiences. A native to Pittsburgh and now a student at the University of Pittsburgh, this city, its progress and commitment to building a more inclusive space for all, and affording opportunities to all, is important to me personally. The Carnegie Science Center was an important part of my early introduction to and understanding of science and its numerous applications, and I would like to be a part of enabling members of the Pittsburgh community to have similar, positive experiences. |

10/11/2017 | Trying To Find The Best Diet Pill? Trying to find the best diet pill may seem like an impossible task, especially with the multitude of diet pills available for purchase. Many people purchase a diet pill only to find out that the pill makes them feel jittery, nervous, or often has no effect at all. Diet pills frequently contain the same or similar combination of ingredients and rarely contain anything new, innovative, or undiscovered to the supplement / weight loss industry. So, how can you find the best diet pill when most diet pills are made with similar ingredients? One of the most common problems associated with taking diet pills is that the person taking the diet pill is uneducated about the dosage, effects, and promises offered as they relate to each diet pill. The research at website finds that there are three factors that should be taken into consideration when deciding to take a diet pill. Dosage: It is important to take the pill exactly as recommended on the product label. Some people choose to increase the dosage thinking that the product will work faster or better. This is not the case, and many people become sick in response to the large dose. Reviewers at website often suggest that the recommended dosage be cut in half to give the body time to adjust to the stimulant in the diet pill. After the body has adjusted, it is fine to begin taking the regular dosage as recommended on the product label. Effects: The effects listed on the product label are there because these are the effects that the product has had on 'some' of the test group. Some of the diet pill testers may be fine taking the product, while others may have adverse effects. The diet pill companies print this information to educate the buyer as well as to protect themselves from lawsuits. The consumer needs to read the label and educate themselves before taking the product. Many people who are sensitive to caffeine are surprised when the diet pill makes them feel nervous or nauseous, but this information is likely printed on the product, so with a little research these affects can be avoided. Promises: If you read the fine print on product claims for diet pills and other weight loss supplements, you will see 'results not typical' printed very small somewhere where you are not expected to look. The diet pills advertised on television are responsible for some of the most outlandish claims. The results claimed in these advertisements are often unattainable within the given amount of time outlined in the ad. Don't expect to see results in two weeks like a lot of ads claim. Wouldn't it be great if you could read reviews for diet pills from actual users of each diet pill? Diet Pill Reviews website has taken the trouble out of searching for the best diet pill. You can read reviews of over 150 of the most popular diet pills available. Copyright 2006, Diet Pill Reviews viagra pas cher |
10/11/2017 | Doctors have many challenges to face as they are perennially surrounded by patients, diseases, hospital duties and over-extended or odd shift timings. Universally, doctor is considered to be a noble profession and respectable one at that, but a doctor also has to work under immense pressures, emotional strains and other physical challenges. A regular physician like most of us at some point face will have to deal with personal situations such as important family affairs, family holidays, sickness or pregnancy that may force them to abandon medical duties. At the same time, a hospital or a healthcare facility is also constantly faced with emergency situations that demand all hands on deck round-the-clock. Therefore, every hospital, clinic or nursing home is compelled to hire locum tenens or substitute doctor in order to keep the staffing under control at all times. In fact, locum doctors are the most valuable asset for the medical community because they provide quality medical care and act as a helping-hand in emergency situations when the medical facilities need them the most. Unlike regular or permanent doctors, locum doctor jobs are also ideal career options for medical interns and graduates because they offer a wide array of medical exposure in varied medical specialties, work cultures and healthcare systems. Locum jobs are challenging and flexible, thus an increasing number of medical professionals have benefitted from these jobs, so whether one is looking for a family physicians position or in a hospital or in a clinic, locum jobs for doctors are available at all levels and in different healthcare systems. In addition, being a locum doctor gives a medical professional the control over their working hours, location of work and choice of area of specialisation. Technically, locum positions are not restricted to general physicians but they are also extended to other fields of medical specialisations such as cardiology, neurology and many more. Travelling can be an integral part of locum jobs, and these distinctive features are a boon for many dedicated medical professionals who are eager to expand their medical careers with loads of multi-cultural medical experiences. The fact that locum agencies in the UK recruit tens of thousands of locums from across the globe in various NHS hospitals, private clinics, nursing homes and other public hospitals speaks volume of the popularity of locum jobs. Locating or getting a locum tenens job is a simple task as long as you are registered with one of the many reputable locum agencies. These agencies act as the middle man between locum tenens and medical facilities, and they also look after all the details pertaining to travel for locum tenens, accommodation and the nature of locum work. Thus, maintaining a healthy locum doctor-agency relationship benefits both the parties, and it also increases the probability of getting recommendable employment opportunities and businesses or vice-versa. |
06/07/2018 | I love science and I had been visiting CSC ever since I started walking. I learned so much about science in the science center. It would be great if I can get the chance to contribute back. |
10/16/2017 | Whenever I travel away from Pittsburgh, I try to visit a ship or submarine museum in every city, from Baltimore to San Francisco to Edinburgh. Some of the museum ships I have been able to visit include the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh, and the USS Intrepid complex in New York City. No matter where I go, I always compare the experience to the USS Requin. The amazing experience offered to visitors aboard the USS Requin comes not just from the freedom to move about the sub at your own pace nor the wonderful exhibition labels and historical photographs, but from the interpretation offered by Science Center volunteers. My friends often tell me that I ask too many questions, including many they do not know the answer to. Despite my incessant questioning, the volunteers and staff aboard the USS Requin were able to answer all of them and more. I would like to offer this same experience to children and other visitors to the Science Center and the USS Requin. In addition to seeking out museum ships on my travels, I had the opportunity to pursue my deep interest in maritime history further while studying at Cornell University. The History department offers two courses that discuss the history of exploration. The first course I took, appropriately called History of Exploration, offered a survey of human exploration and seafaring from early Polynesian islanders colonizing the Pacific to deep-sea oceanography and even off-world space exploration. A year later, I continued to study this subject in a seminar class called Oceans: The Sea in Human History where we discussed the importance of the maritime environment throughout human history. We explored how trade, resources, power and exploration affected the ways humans viewed the sea and how these interpretations evolved over time. These classes and the research projects I undertook for both will help me to analyze and interpret the exhibitions and the role of the USS Requin both as a military and research vessel for visitors. |
10/17/2017 | During middle school, I discovered how much I loved learning about math and science. I want to help people, especially children, realize how fascinating and fun science can be. I personally would love to work with one of the STEM projects because I think it is important for children to explore these subjects. I am the only person in my family who was genuinely interested in math and science. I was lucky enough to have a family friend who was a physician. He always encouraged me to learn about the sciences and assisted me in any school research projects. I hope to return the favor to other children who want to develop their skills and love for science. |

I would love to become a part of this team that plays such an important role in science education of everyone. |
03/27/2018 | I LOVE science! There is no feeling quite like being in a science museum. Discovery so |
04/01/2018 | When I was a little kid, I can vividly remember pestering my Mom to bring me to the Carnegie Science Center, because it was like a whole different world to me. My favorite exhibit was the trains. I used to sit there for hours and watch the toy trains go around the exhibit. Also, I remember the human body exhibit, where actual pieces of the human anatomy were displayed. At this point, my love for science was blossoming, and the Carnegie Science center was a place for me to manifest this new passion of mine. Now, as a science major in college, I believe I have the capabilities to assist the Science Center in ways that will make the customer experience so much better; to give young kids with vast imaginations a platform to spark a new interest in science, the way that the science center did for me nearly 10 years ago. |
04/03/2018 | I learned about the Carnegie Science Center at a summer internship and volunteer fair a Pitt. It really stuck out to me mainly because of the Fab Lab. I love the idea of using technology for creation; I have had the opportunity to use so many different technologies as an engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh, and I would love to have even more exposure to technology in the Fab Lab. I would be happy with any position at the Carnegie Science center because out of all of the volunteer opportunities that I have been looking into, the Carnegie Science Center is the only one that relates to STEM, and it is most applicable to my major as well as my future as an engineer. |

04/19/2018 | I've always loved the Science Center. There's always something new and interesting going on, especially for members. I know that the impressive new addition will only enhance the experience for patrons. The Art of the Brick exhibit especially caught my attention because it's such a fascinating project. The way that what is considered to be a child's toy is used in so many different and unique ways to create something completely different is truly astounding. There were many times during the exhibit, that I forgot for a moment that these were Lego bricks. It genuinely reinforces the notion of creativity. |
04/19/2018 | Some of my earliest memories are coming to the Carnegie Science Center for church and academic field trips. At such a young age and now as a college student, I have always been so fascinated by all of the exhibits and activities at the Carnegie Science Center. 05/02/2018 | As a child who grew up outside of Pittsburgh, the Carnegie science center was one of my favorite places to adventure. I loved to learn about science in such a positive and fun learning environment. The reason I want to volunteer at the Carnegie Science Center is that I remember the wonder and amazement I felt as a child there, and I want to help provide that experience to kids today. I couldn't think of a more worthwhile way to spend my time than to show children how incredible science really is and how it can impact everyday life and the way we think. In high school, I was a part of a science honors society club, in which we went to the elementary schools in the district and performed a few simple experiments to show kids how incredible science can be. I loved being able to share my knowledge of science with younger kids and show them why science is important. The Carnegie Science Center is the perfect place for me to volunteer because it is such a positive and happy learning environment that I would love to be a part of. |

08/14/2018 | The Carnegie Science Center mission to delight, educate and inspire through interactive experiences in science and technology resonates with me both professionally and personally. Professionally, my Masters degree in Maritime Archaeology will help me to understand the History and significance of the USS Requin through a multidisciplinary lens. Technologically, the USS Requin represents an important development in both maritime and military technology. Through the use of a habitat in which humans could survive underwater for extended periods of time, militaries were able to project power across oceans while maintaining stealth and secrecy. From an anthropological standpoint, the markings and artifacts that are present on the USS Requin serve as clues to the human experience upon that submarine, showing how individuals coped with the dangers and pressure of submarine life. A volunteer position at the Science Center would give me the opportunity to teach visitors about the incredible scientific and technological innovations that changed the nature of warfare, and global politics. Personally, the Center brings back memories of my childhood, visiting the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey (I grew up in New York City), and the incredible amount of fun I had there as a child. I remember actually understanding what I was seeing there because it was explained in a way that I, as a child, could understand. I have never forgotten the things I learned about static electricity, liquid nitrogen, suction, and the impact of salt on ice and how that makes the ice even colder. I remember being able to explain these things to my friends, and knowing why I got a shock when I touched a metal door knob after walking across a carpet in the winter. It is my dream to do that for others, and to give them the same delight, wonder and joy that I experienced as a child. |

As a volunteer, I not only hope to have the opportunity to share my experiences and stories as a young woman in STEM, but also listen and learn from their stories and their experiences. Through my involvement with a service organization that I founded, Project Girl Undefined, my work with the young women at Girls Hope Pittsburgh, and other organizations on and off the campus of the University of Pittsburgh, I have learned so much about the power of giving back and paying it forward. As a volunteer, I hope to courageously stand with others who have choosen to combat the idea that women do not belong in STEM and, encourage the alternative idea that we are, in fact, do. My mantra during my last couple of years at Pitt has been, "Be who you needed when you were younger." I hope that the Carnegie STEM Girls committee will offer me a chance to be an educator, an encourager, a supporter, a friend, and a woman of inspiration to whomever is in need. I am extremely proud to represent a university and a city that believes in the power of women in STEM and hope to have the chance to share my knowledge. |

04/12/2019 | The Carnegie Science Center is a place for learning of all kinds. Interactive exhibits, large scale attractions, and modern approaches to traditional forms of education provide students of any variety an opportunity to learn in fun unique ways. I feel my skill set and experience at this point would fit very well with this institution's reputation for energetic, personal, community involvement in an academic scenario; I believe not only would I thrive in such a setting as this center offers, but would also be a valuable member of the team. |

08/27/2021 | I am an Occupational Therapy Assistant student at CCAC, as one of our course requirements we must complete 24 volunteer hours over 8 weeks through the current Fall semester. My professor has recommended that we spread our hours across the 8 weeks with approximately 3 hours a week. I am interested in volunteering at the Carnegie Science Center because I enjoy helping people and watching them learn and expand their knowledge. To me, the Carnegie Science Center is such a fun, interesting place where people of all ages can go to learn and have fun without even knowing it. |
04/29/2019 | On a personal note, I believe that by volunteering at Carnegie Science Center I will be able to learn more about Pittsburgh`s culture and at the same time have the possibility of giving back to the community. |

05/10/2019 | It's a fun exciting place to volunteer at. The people there are so amazing and I would love the opportunity to volunteer here |
05/13/2019 | I am passionate about the healthy development of adolescent girls and would like to contribute my knowledge and experience as a female social science graduate student to young girls' lives. |
05/14/2019 | In high school I was an active volunteer for many organizations. Through my work and volunteer experiences, I have been inspired by my mentors and I realized the impact and tangible benefits of working, learning and volunteering. I would like to share that knowledge, excitement and personal growth through volunteering. The Carnegie Science Center was always a special place where my parents brought me to learn and have fun so becoming an integral part of the science center would be a rewarding experience. |
05/22/2019 | As a child of a teacher, learning did not stop for summer and I spent mine going on educational field trips. These trips ranged from the Pittsburgh Zoo to Old Economy Village. However, out of all the places that we would venture to, my favorite place to go was the Carnegie Science Center. Some of my fondest childhood memories were playing at the water tables and sitting with my siblings in the earthquake simulator. Having the opportunity to return to work at the Carnegie Science Center would be a privilege and an honor to now share with others my love of learning about science. |

05/23/2019 | I have been to CSC several times as a Pitts Student. I am fond of the educating atmosphere there and would love to devote myself to the community. |
05/28/2019 | I love sports and recreation Close to home |
06/03/2019 | I believe that science should be accessible to everyone, and in the most exciting form possible. Science centers have always inspired me both scientifically and artistically. Being a scientist, I find tremendous joy in communicating what I know to the public and in a way, it motivates me learn more about science. I think volunteering at the science center will help me realize and mature the science communicator in me, and help me build on science communication skills. I also wish to contribute to the empowerment of new scientists through this volunteering experience. |
06/10/2019 | While I understand that it is not required, I come from a STEM background and thus have a ton of respect for organizations that seek to promote scientific understanding. I have been wanting to find a place where I could feel excited to volunteer, but only recently learned the scope of volunteer opportunities at Carnegie Science Center. When I read the list of volunteer tasks I immediately knew this is the place I would want to be. I am always excited when I am able to teach someone else about something scientific, and I hope to be a part of a place that does that every day. Likewise for my own growth, I have been out of school for a few years now and I miss learning. I can learn to some degree on my own, but to immerse myself in such an informative environment I feel would be very stimulating for my mind. |

08/22/2019 | I believe here I'll be able to receive training in science communication, which is something I'm interested in pursuing after my doctoral degree. |
06/15/2019 | Having a curiosity and interest in science and history, I want to be able to try and get others as interested as I was when I visited the Carnegie Science Center myself. As someone who moved to Pittsburgh in the past 6 years, I found the Carnegie Science Center to be a place that anyone would definitely enjoy visiting, and I want to give that back to those going to the Carnegie Science Center while being home in Pittsburgh for the summer. |

06/17/2019 | I really enjoyed working with the Carnegie Science Center as a high school student, so I want to explore the other departments available. The Science Center also offers great exposure in STEM education for visitors. I am interested in becoming an educator in the future, so this opportunity will allow me to learn how to educate the public in a unique environment. Living in Oakland, I am close to the Science Center and can fulfill my duties easily. I am passionate about science as a whole, so volunteering here is a way to express that passion while giving back to the community and learning important skills. |
06/19/2019 | My sister volunteered here years ago and told me all about how rewarding it was for her and how much she enjoyed working the summer camp with children. As a kid, I remember how excited I would be to visit the Science Center or Sports Works and would love to help make that experience as enjoyable for children now as it was for me throughout my youth. |
06/19/2019 | My sister volunteered here a few summers ago and has yet to stop raving about how rewarding the experience was for her. Growing up, I remember the joy and excitement that I always felt when it was time to visit Sports Works or the Science Center and now aspire to help make the experience as memorable and enjoyable for visitors as it always was for me! |
06/21/2019 | Going to the Carnegie Science Center as a kid was always a favorite for me; I would love to give people visiting the same amazing experience I had. |

06/23/2019 | Fascinated by naval vessel and want to share that knowledge with others. |
06/23/2019 | I would love to volunteer at Carnegie Science Center because I am really impressed by all that the center has to offer. The adult experiences, including the 21+ nights, two scientists, and Cafe Scientifique originally caught my eye to both attend or volunteer. I am very interested in using my scientific training to help educate others and spread enthusiasm and understanding of science. I fell incredibly lucky that there are such great programs in Pittsburgh through the Carnegie Science Center and I am excited for the opportunity to get involved. |
06/25/2019 | The Center has any interesting events and I have myself attended the cafe scientifique talks and found it to be really good. I want to be part of organizing such cool events. |

07/10/2019 | I have always loved going to the Carnegie Science Center. I love how much they help out the community and really get kids involved with science. I love that the Carnegie Science Center shows and teaches kids how awesome science is and all of the amazing things you can do with it. |
07/12/2019 | Carnegie Science Center stood out because I am looking to spend my free time helping others and getting involved in the community. In the past I would visit the Carnegie Science Center with my children and deceased wife. It was a wonderful place to spend time with family. |
05/05/2022 | I have followed Carnegie Science Center's work for several years. After receiving information about the STEM Storytellers program, I was fully persuaded that I needed to get involved. Your programs are inspiring, engaging and out-of-the-box which I believe is necessary to spark students' interest and keep them on fire for STEM. |
07/22/2019 | I have a love and passion for science and kids! Science is for everyone, and I want to share my love for it. I think this is a great opportunity! I also just moved to Pittsburgh, and I think this would be a wonderful way to meet all kinds of people and learn about the city. |

07/30/2019 | I believe the Carnegie Science Center is an important institution that makes an enormous effort to make scientific knowledge available to everybody. I think I would learn a lot by being a volunteer here. I strongly believe that everyone has the right to knowledge and this should go beyond the members of "the academia". I think the Carnegie Science Center does this and I would be extremely pleased to contribute their effort. |
09/19/2019 | I have loved the Museums since I was a child taking art classes with Joseph Fitzpatrick in the 1970's. I spent so many happy hours there as a child and have passed the love on to my grandchildren. |
08/06/2019 | One of my most memorable childhood experiences was visiting science centers and museums, where I was able to be curious about anything and learn. I would enjoy the opportunity to return the favor and be able to educate the youth and engage them in STEM. |
08/06/2019 | I remember visiting Carnegie Science Center as a child and always loved the experience. I would love to spread my love of science to other children while getting to volunteer my time at a place that I love so much. |
08/08/2019 | Looking for an interesting and learning experience. Something new and exciting. |
08/09/2019 | I hope to be a part of Carnegie Science Center so I can help those who are interested in science and art be equipped to do what they want to do. I want to take what I have learned through school, jobs, and internships to aid students on their own creative practices and academic paths. I hope to build students' confidence so that whatever they decide to do next, they will feel like they have the tools to push past setbacks. |

08/14/2019 | I always love science and technology since my childhood. However, when I studied Computer Science in China, I found out that I am not that kind of person who is able to code and program. Hence, I transfer my major to Foreign Langauge Education at Pitt. However, that does not mean that I lost my passion for technology. Carnegie Science Center is an ideal place for me to achieve my personal fulfillment. Carnegie Science Center promotes technology and science to the public, especially to kids, to inspire their interest through multiple hands-on activities. I want to become part of the Carnegie Science Center and help the society to realize the power of technology. |
08/14/2019 | Close to home, great opportunity to add to my professional portfolio. |
08/22/2019 | I am personally interested in science and history and would like to give back to the city of Pittsburgh. |
08/23/2019 | I am new to the Pittsburgh area and I loved my experience at the Asheville Museum of Science and would love to have a similar experience here. I am eager to bring the things I have learned and observed to my new community and engage with like minded people in an educational setting. I love presenting and teaching to groups of people and this would be a good setting for that. I also prioritize volunteering in my schedule because of the personal fulfillment it brings me and the impact that I can make in my community. |

08/24/2019 | I heard about the mummies of the world exbitit and how its the largest exhibition of mummies and artifacts ever assembled and knew I had to get involved. I Also just moved here and would like to meet people and be able to interact with children, especially young girls and get them interested in science. Always loved museums and museum spaces even as a kid and my father would bring my sister and I to our local museum in Reading Pennsylvania and my favorite part would always be the mummy and the planetarium shows. |
08/30/2019 | I enjoy visiting the Science Center and love working with people. |
09/02/2019 | I remember as a kid being interested in science but at the same time being intimidated by it (at some times I still am). It would be nice to show kids and, or young adults how incredible science is and to encourage them that they can be the next generation of scientists. I want to help in making science acceptable to people of all ages. |
08/30/2019 | I love science and I love teaching children about STEM but don't get enough experience to do so because of my job. So I thought, why not volunteer to teach people about STEM while having fun. And |
09/01/2019 | I visited here When I went with Mellon College of Science fieldtrip. I had great experience here. Also, I wish to gain some hands-on science and teaching experience because I love learning, want to know more about the opposite process of learning, teaching (you have to be able to explain things), and want to improve education systems in the future. This place is a perfect starting point for me to start pursuing my goals. |

09/08/2019 | I have recently relocated to Pittsburgh for a new job and felt that volunteering at an iconic Pittsburgh institution like the Carnegie Science Center would be a great way to give back to the community I now call home. In addition, I have always enjoyed working with children as illustrated in my past volunteer experience. Being an engineer myself, I would be honored to be given the opportunity to mentor the next generation of engineers and help them see the vast potential of a career in the STEM field. And what better way than to use 3D printers, laser cutters etc that will not only pique the interest of a young mind but also make it a great learning experience for the adult mentor too. |
09/08/2019 | I loved coming to the Carnegie Science Center when I was a kid. After attending college, I want to be able to empower kids and support their interest in the STEM field. |

09/10/2019 | I am extremely interested in working with art and artifacts in my future, and the Science Center would be a great stepping stone! |
09/11/2019 | I've began pursuing a career in STEM education and am working towards applying to the University of Pittsburgh's teacher certification program. As a future educator I hope to not just communicate science, but to inspire interest and enthusiasm in it. After my first visit to Carnegie Science Center, I knew from the moment Jeff Goldblum began narrating in the Buhl Planetarium, that this is a great place for doing just that: getting kids excited about science. My time volunteering at an underserved high school demonstrated that one of the biggest barriers to educational success in the STEM fields was a lack of this enthusiasm and excitement. The teachers were stretched thin and there was barely any time or resources to develop interesting and engaging demonstrations. As a future educator I intend on building everything from Van der Graaf generators to catapults to apps in Matlab that could help pique a curiosity in science. I believe that given the opportunity to volunteer at Carnegie Science Center, I would be able to learn from and help contribute to the inspiring array of demonstrations and exhibits. |

09/18/2019 | I grew up going to the Carnegie Science Center on field trips and with my family. I think it's a great place for kids to be able to learn while having fun. |
09/26/2019 | Ever since my family moved to Pittsburgh in 2001, the Carnegie Science Center has been one of my favorite places in town. As a child, I loved being able to interact with so many exhibits, even if I didn't fully understand the concepts they were teaching. The older I became, the more I appreciated the experiential learning embodied within the Science Center, and the diverse range of topics that it covered. As an adult, I now want to pass on those formative experiences onto new generations and to wider audiences. In particular, the new Mummies of the World brings together many fields in which I am particularly passionate: education, social history, art history, and science. |

09/26/2019 | I visited Cargenie Science Center for the first time in last June, after we moved to Pittsburgh for a not very long time. I was very impressed by the Lego exhibition and fell in love with the Miniature Railroad & Village immediately. I like the design of many interactive programs too. They are inspiring to both kids and adults. I think Cargenie Science Center is a well organized museum and its STEM programs are a plus to my interests. I can't wait to come back after our first visit and volunteer to make some contribution. |

10/03/2019 | Part of what initially got me interested in science was trips to the science center and I'd love to give back. Additionally, during my sophomore year of high school I developed a deep liking for the subject of biology and the best way I learned the subject was teaching it to other people. |
10/04/2019 | Having been to the CSC many times and enjoyed being there, it is a good idea to give back. |
10/05/2019 | I have always loved the CSC, and would love to have the chance to volunteer here. |
10/05/2019 | I recently moved to Pittsburgh to pursue my masters level degree in biomedical science. I am looking to find ways to serve my new community, and my interests lay within the STEM field. I believe Carnegie Science Center is an incredible institution and the perfect opportunity for me to apply my current knowledge in the health sciences and engage with visitors. I also believe this experience would allow me to learn more about other STEM fields, allowing me to develop some of my other skills. |
10/06/2019 | I feel that science communication is more important today than it may have ever been. We live in times when a large percentage of the population has chosen to value feelings over facts. Inspiring the next generation to think critically and ask questions is inredibly important in these uncertain times, and in many ways the best hope for the future of our country and planet. |
10/11/2019 | It affords the opportunity to mentor in STEM and admire public scientific institutions. |
10/12/2019 | I have always really enjoyed nature and science museums and would like to give back to my new community. |
10/16/2019 | I'm interested in working with youth and learning new skills. Carnegie Science Center provides a great environment for both adults and children. |
10/24/2019 | I am interested in the Model Railroad display, I like to teach people about the history of the Railroad in the area, Also to learn more about things related to Carnegie Science Center |

11/07/2019 | Being an engineer and maker is a big part of who I am. I thrive in being creative, designing and building in the 3 dimensions. My uncle once told me, "Take pride in the things you do yourself." This has always stuck with me and has driven me to learn and do new things rather than having them done for me. I hope to grow the next generation to think in a similar manner in not only having STEM as their career, but their way of life. |

02/27/2022 | As a child, I was put in daycare year-round due to the amount of hours my parents worked. Like other kids, one of my favorite times of the year was summer not because of summer vacations but because of the fieldtrips we went on. Of all the fieldtrips we went on, the one I always looked forward to was the Orlando Science Center. The Orlando Science Center allowed me to explore my favorite subject in an interactive way that captivated me every visit. Reflecting on my joy of the science center is what led me to apply for a summer camp counselor position and this volunteer position. My camp counselor position is by far the most amazing experience I had because it allowed me to connect with kids who had the same interests as me. I loved getting to teach them something new and creating as best an environment for them as I could. I want to join the Carnegie Science Center volunteer team because I want to create that same environment for those living in Pittsburgh. I also want to join an organization with which I can grow with over the rest of my undergraduate career. |
