The Information We Collect

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected by Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, including but not limited to mail, telephone, email, online transactions, and onsite visits at our museums.

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh will only collect personal information which you knowingly and voluntarily provide by, for example, completing membership forms, sending emails, registering for events or other programs, or responding to surveys.  As a Donor, Member, or visitor of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, you agree, without limitation or qualification, to be bound by this Privacy Policy.

The personal information that you supply will allow us to appropriately respond to your requests and to provide a variety of services at Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. Personal information may include name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, and other personal contact information.  Personal information regarding your interests will allow us to provide materials to meet your specific needs. Museum personnel may, for example, use the personal information to customize offers and target communications through mail and email.

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh or its designees may, from time to time, compile statistics on visitors to our museums and to our websites and/or work with others compiling statistics or performing other quantitative analysis. In these situations, the information that you provide may be used to aggregate statistical information to analyze visitor interest or other aspects of non-profit organization-related activities.  The information aggregated will not include any personal information as it relates to a single visitor.

If you make a purchase on-site, over the phone, through the mail, or on-line from Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, we will ask you to provide only the information necessary to process your order.  For reasons of security, Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh does not store credit card information permanently on any Web server.

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh is the sole owner of information you voluntarily submit to us. If at any time it becomes reasonably necessary, Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh will release the personal information that you have provided to comply with a court order, or protect the rights, property or safety of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, its personnel, the users of its sites, or others.


Opting Out

Under certain circumstances, we share mailing information collected, i.e. during registration processes online, over the phone, or in-person at the museums, with reputable organizations that are not related to Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. If at any time you do not wish to allow us to share your mailing information with other organizations, you can call the Membership Office at 412.622.3314 or email membership@carnegiemuseums.org. By choosing to “opt out”, the mailing information that you provide will not be shared or used outside of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.


Information Security

Online information provided to Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh is transmitted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a proven coding system that lets your browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before you send it to us.  We also protect account information by placing it on a secure portion of our site that is only accessible by certain qualified employees of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.While we strive to protect your information as much as possible, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of that information.

Information collected via mail and telephone is stored in a PCI-compliant secure database that is only accessible by certain qualified employees of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.


Information Collected Automatically

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh may automatically collect information relating to visitors when they access our websites. Information From Children

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh does not solicit personal information from children under the age of 12. We are concerned about protecting children’s privacy and safety and will never intentionally ask a child 12 years old or younger to provide us with any personal information. It is our intention to discourage children 12 years old or younger from providing any personal information. Parents and guardians are asked to instruct their children not to provide any personal information in any requests they send to Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. In the event that such information is sent to Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, we will merely respond to the request, and we will not attempt to create a profile or otherwise retain the child’s information.
