We now understand the history of the Universe over the last 14 billion years in exquisite detail. This is a remarkable achievement that required centuries of work – and we are not finished. The study of the Universe can teach us many valuable lessons. We have a greater understanding of where we came from on the grandest scale, and we can use the Universe as a laboratory to study new laws of physics. In our upcoming Café Sci, explore the possibilities for dark matter and dark energy, the formation and evolution of black holes, and the very early stages of the Universe which we inhabit. We can even learn about and reinforce the methods of science itself. Learn about the history and science of the Universe and how the study of the Universe can teach us valuable lessons.

Andrew is a theoretical cosmologist on the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh.
