Black holes: How they work and how we can use them

Black holes are a mystery we're just beginning to understand. Science fiction suggests we should avoid going anywhere near them, but it may be possible to use them for amazing purposes. Join science communication YouTuber and futurist Isaac Arthur on Mon., June 3, as he discusses how black holes work and the potential benefits of them. From powering interstellar spaceships to economies, black holes, known as wells of total darkness, may be the key to a brighter future.

Arthur is the host of Science & Futurism with Isaac Arthur on YouTube, with more than 360,000 subscribers and 200 episodes covering topics about colonizing the solar system, interstellar travel, the Fermi Paradox, artificial intelligence, and other topics representing future paths and challenges for humanity.

Arthur received his degree in physics from Kent State University, graduating at the top of his class at the age of 20. He remained there for graduate studies before joining the United States Army. He also worked as a civilian researcher at the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio. After the military, he returned to his hometown of Ashtabula, Ohio, where he currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Elections.
