Membership Sign Up

At least one but no more than two adult names must be listed as the Designated Adult(s) on each membership.  When there are two Designated Adults on a membership, they need not live in the same household.  However, only one adult may be selected as the Primary Record.  That adult’s address will be the one associated with the membership, and all mailings will be sent to that address, including membership card(s) and benefits package, CARNEGIE magazine, invitations, and renewal notices.  We cannot mail multiple copies of membership materials, nor can we mail to more than one address per membership.

“Children” or “guests” need not be designated by name and need not live in the same household as the Designated Adult. 

“Seniors” must be 65 years of age or older and may be asked to provide proof of birthdate.


Members Visits

At least one Designated Adult must be present for any member visit. A Designated Adult must provide Proof of Identity such as a valid driver’s license or other photo ID at the point of admission, along with his/her valid membership card. The only exceptions to this rule are:

  • if a Designated Caregiver is visiting in place of a Designated Adult (see below)
  • if a member child age 13-18 is visiting on their own (in which case he/she will need to show the family membership card but does not need a Designated Adult present)

Admission privileges provided by the membership for “children” or for “guests” are transferable. When “guest” is specified for a membership level, the guest may be either a child or an adult.

Children

Children under age 3 are admitted free and need not be covered by a membership.  When a membership specifies “children,” this refers to individuals aged 3-18 years.  Adult children of members (children over the age of 18) or other adults may not be substituted when “children” are indicated. Museum policy requires that children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older at all times.

 

Caregiver Policy

A Designated Caregiver must be at least 18 years of age, and Caregiver ID cards are not transferable. Caregiver privileges are valid only when the Caregiver is accompanied by children age 0-18.  If the Caregiver is accompanying the entire member family group including Designated Adult(s) and children, the Caregiver is also covered by the membership.

When bringing member children to the museums, the Designated Caregiver must present:
1) Valid Family or Premium membership card
2) Valid Caregiver ID card
3) Proof of Caregiver identity

A family may have only one Designated Caregiver at a time. If this Designated Caregiver changes during the course of the membership year, a Designated Adult must return the old Caregiver ID Card (via mail or in person to any Member Desk), and we will issue a new one in exchange, free of charge.  (We reserve the right to limit the number of times per year a family may change Designated Caregiver cards.)


Membership Cards

When only one adult is designated on a membership, only one membership card will be issued. When two adults are designated, a second card will be issued upon request.  In this case, both membership cards will include both adult names. Both cards will be mailed to the membership’s address of record. Cards will not be mailed to separate addresses.

There will be a $10 fee for each replacement of a lost Membership Card or a Caregiver ID card.  We reserve the right to limit the number of times Membership Cards or Caregiver ID cards will be replaced within any given membership year.

Field Trips/Group Visits

Free membership admission does not apply to group visits and field trips due to additional programming and expenses related to these visits.
